How to Use Montessori Cards
Montessori Nomenclature Cards and 3-Part Classified Cards offer the children an opportunity to learn new vocabulary, learn how objects are classified, and begin to understand the function or use of many objects. We have an extensive post on How To Use Classified Cards here . It runs through the use of the cards over the course of a 3 year period. This post will be short and straight to the point of how to use the Montessori Cards in a lesson.

b) Repeat the 3 Period lesson for 3 new objects/parts. Continue the process as long as the child shows interest.
- Period 1 - Isolate 3 pictures in front of the child. Name the object/part one at a time (ie. apples, seeds, tree)
- Period 2 - Rearrange the pictures and ask the child to show you a specific object/part (ie. "show me the seeds"). Repeat for each part, mixing them up several times and having the child repeat the name of the object/part they show you. You can move the cards around the table and also give them direction to move the cards (ie. place the seeds beside the apples, move the tree above the seeds, put the apples on the corner of the table, place the tree in my hand, etc).
- Period 3 - Rearrange the picture cards again, point to a picture and ask the question "What is this?"

Some children would prefer to draw all of their own cards, which is wonderful - don't discourage it!
